A man committed suicide in broad daylight on a Danville downtown street Friday afternoon, police confirmed Tuesday.
The death took place at a parking lot at the end of Rose Avenue; police are not releasing the name of the 23-year-old man who hanged himself.
"We got a call at 2:30 because somebody pulled in and saw something that was unusual," Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins said. "We pulled up and checked it out."
He said at first glance, it was impossible to tell that the man had taken his own life.
"You would have to take a closer look," Simpkins said. "It wasn't one of those things that was immediately obvious. On closer inspection, it was determined to be a suicide."
The Danville Express only reports on suicides that occur in public places.
