Danville Mayor Candace Andersen, now Contra Costa County District 2 Supervisor-elect Andersen, is still waiting to hear if and when Gov. Jerry Brown will appoint her to fill the vacant position.

"Right now we're looking at June 26 when the Board of Supervisors will pass a resolution asking the governor to appoint me immediately," Andersen said Tuesday afternoon.

She said many supporters of her chief opponent Tomi Van de Brooke, such as Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan and labor leaders, have reached out to her.

"They are encouraging the governor to make the appointment immediately so I am hopeful that an early appointment will be made," she said.

Normally the term she was elected to would be begin in January but the seat was vacated when former Supervisor Gayle Uilkema died May 19.

Since Andersen's election last week, with 60 percent of the vote, she has begun learning her new job, she said.

"This morning I spent four hours sitting down with David Twa, the county administrator, and sitting down with Gayle's staff, figuring out what everyone does," she said.

Andersen will keep the District 2 office at 309 Diablo Road in Danville, as well as a satellite office in Contra Costa County Fire District Headquarters in Lafayette.

Uilkema also had an office in Martinez that she'd opened when it was part of her district.

"The Martinez office won't be necessary," Andersen said. "I'll have access to facilities if I need to meet with someone."

Andersen is also busy with her mayoral duties.

"At the next council meeting, June 19, we will be passing the budget, and we have a few other things on the agenda, special events," she said.

Also on June 19, starting at 5:30 p.m., is a General Plan meeting with the Town Council and Planning Commission.

"I'm running madly in both directions," Andersen said with a laugh. "But it's been a great opportunity to focus on things that are important -- the town and my family. The campaigning was very intense from the moment I woke up until I fell to sleep at night."

District 2 has elected a winner for the BOS. We will all find out in the coming months how much of a real winner Candace is.

Will be interesting to see to which special interest she aligns herself.

Like most politicians, she is concerned about her next job and her future, more than the citizens. She is STILL mayor of Danville, how about doing some work for us in Danville, such as stopping the Summerhill development of Magee Ranch? If she is so preoccupied with her next job and her own personal career goals, she needs to step down TODAY as mayor of Danville.
