| San Ramon Valley residents, Olympics enthusiasts and Mustang supports are invited to congratulate and welcome home Danville residents Jessica and Maggie Steffens, members of the gold medal winning U.S. women's water polo team.
The Steffens sisters, both defenders for the Olympic team, were crucial in helping the U.S. win a gold medal in this year's London games with an 8-5 victory over Spain. The 2012 games was the second for Jessica and first for Maggie.
Maggie and Jessica will share their experiences in London and what it means to bring a gold medal back to the United States and to Danville. The Steffens sisters will each receive a "key to the town" and special recognition from the Danville Town Council and other officials.
The hour-long event will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Oak Hill Park in Danville, less than 600 feet from the pool where the two played for the Monte Vista High School water polo team. The event will be followed by the town's music in the park concert series at 6 p.m.
The youngest member of the U.S. Olympic team, Maggie Steffens deferred her entrance to Stanford to train with the national team and posted six goals on the way to a gold medal and Olympic qualification at the 2011 Pan American Games. Twenty five-year-old Jessica graduated from Stanford in 2009 and returned to the team in 2011 after not competing in 2010 following shoulder surgery. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition?
