Local Olympians honored at Board of Supervisors meeting
|
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors honored a number of local Olympians at its meeting in Martinez on Tuesday.
Three-time gold medalist swimmer Dana Vollmer, of Richmond, was recognized, along with fellow swimmer Natalie Coughlin, of Lafayette.
Vollmer won gold in the 100-meter butterfly -- setting a world record time of 55.98 seconds -- as well as the 4-by-100-meter medley relay and the 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay.
Coughlin won bronze in the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay.
The board also honored sisters Jessica and Maggie
Steffens, both graduates of Monte Vista high, Melissa Seidemann, of Walnut Creek, and Heather Petri, of Orinda -- all members of the gold medal-winning women's water polo team.
Others recognized Tuesday morning included bronze medal-winning synchronized springboard diver Kristian Ipsen, of Clayton; bronze medallist
in the women's quadruple sculls Kara Kohler, of Clayton; synchronized swimmer Mariya Koroleva of Concord; men's rower Anthony Fahden, of Lafayette; and men's water polo team member Peter Varellas.
