A Danville resident and Alamo-based registered investment advisor will be honored with Diablo magazine's 2012 Threads of Hope Awards, which celebrate outstanding volunteers in the East Bay. Eric Rudney, president of Rudney Associates, is receiving the award for supporting several local organizations.

The award highlights Rudney's longtime support of Las Trampas Inc., a Lafayette-based nonprofit that supports adults with developmental disabilities to discover their capabilities and lead full lives at home, work and in the community. Rudney initiated Reuse, Recycle, Repeat, a program where Las Trampas clients in putting together gift bags of toiletries to be distributed to local residents who have become homeless or are otherwise at risk.

The toiletries include bottles of shampoo, conditioner and bars of soap collected from local hotels that, if not used, would be thrown away and end up in the landfill. Since Rudney helped launch the Reuse, Recycle, Repeat program, Las Trampas clients have put together more than 10,000 gift bags to be distributed.

"It's a win-win-win program," Rudney told Diablo magazine.

Rudney has volunteered as a fundraiser for Las Trampas for nearly 20 years but also devotes his time to several other area organizations. He is a chair of the Foundation Board at Chabot Space and Science Center, chair of the Leadership Council for the Family Heart and Nutrition Center at Children's Hospital Oakland, and is actively involved with the Wheelchair Foundation, Diablo Regional Arts Association and Hospice of East Bay.

Rudney and the four other honorees will be celebrated at a reception on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Orinda Theatre. The other honorees are Sarah Williams of Creative Kindness, Lorrie Sullenberger of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Dr. Tomás Magaña of Faces for the Future Coalition and Dr. Gerald Brody of Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland.
