As many San Ramon Valley residents get in the holiday spirit with Christmas decorations, lights and parties, one Danville man is encouraging others to get into the spirit of giving.

Through Christmas or New Years Day, Jim Beatty will put on a holiday light show at his home at 581 Bobbie Drive to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project -- which serves veterans and service members who were injured on or after Sept. 11, 2001 as well as their families. When families drive or walk by his festive home, he hopes they will leave a donation to benefit service men and women.

Beatty, who usually does not do a large Christmas light display, said he decided to donate to Wounded Warrior Project because he has several friends currently serving in the Armed Forces and others who are ex-military.

"Luckily they came out alive and safe. And for those who were unfortunate and did get hurt, that's what this is all about," said Beatty, a paramedic.

Beatty spent several days putting up approximately 1,200 lights and finally completed the project on Thursday. He operates a 32-channel system (with each channel set up to one set of lights) that is synchronized to holiday music, including Peanuts songs and music by the Trans Siberian Orchestra. The light display will run weekdays at the top of the hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and lasts approximately 15 minutes; Beatty will run lightshows regularly over the weekend.

Those interested in donating to Wounded Warriors while enjoying the festivities should look for a red bucket marked donations on the front lawn.
