 | Danville Police arrested a suspect in connection with a series of residential burglaries occurring in Danville and Blackhawk since mid-December 2012. Charles E. Ratazak, 25, was taken into custody on multiple charges.
Police first received reports of items taken from homes in neighborhoods surrounding the 100 block of Narcissus Court in Danville approximately two months ago. One resident set up a camera and provided police with surveillance video showing a suspect entering a home. Police received similar calls from a homeowner in Blackhawk and executed search and arrest warrants at the Narcissus home on Thursday morning.
"This was a great example of police officers working with the community," said Police Chief Steve Simpkins. "Our officers were getting excellent information from the residents being affected in these burglaries and they were able to use it to make an arrest and bring peace of mind to the neighborhood."
Ratazak was arrested by Danville Police on Feb. 5 in connection with another residential burglary but was released after 72 hours.
"Charges were not filed by the District Attorney's office and we were still developing the investigation," said Sgt. Nate McCormack.
Ratazak was charged with two counts of residential burglary, one1 count of receiving stolen property and an enhancement for one of burglaries being committed while house was occupied.
He is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by cardinal, a resident of the Diablo neighborhood, on Feb 15, 2013 at 6:37 am A-HA! Charles Ratazak, eh? This perp is obviously white, but do the Police and the media say so? NO! It's a conspiracy to protect larcenous Caucasians, I tells ya.
Now, let's see -- where'd he live?

Posted by LMP, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Feb 15, 2013 at 7:30 am Since when are people's ethnicities described upon arrest? Descriptions are given of unknown suspects to help uncover their identity. Don't look for issues that are not there.

Posted by Huh?, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Feb 15, 2013 at 8:48 am LMP, I believe that cardinal is poking fun at the "usual suspects" who frequent these pages to rant about minorities from "outside" coming into our blessed community and committing crimes. I don't imagine we'll be hearing from them this time.
(These are the same folks who were quick to sound off about the presumed ethnicity of the perp in the robbery/shooting at the Alamo jewelry store a couple of years ago until it developed that the bad guy was a local, white NRA booster. Then they went silent. Go figure.)

This is NOT the first dance for Charlie R....he has been a time bomb for may years! The system needs to work and not let him out in 72 hours. He has no respect for anyone and anything and never has....parental guidance....A HUGE ZERO!!!

Posted by PSMacintosh, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Feb 15, 2013 at 11:29 am I think that Cardinal and Huh? are being disingenuous here in their sarcasm against the ACTUAL POINT of some of us other writers, including myself.
I've previously made the point that the News Media has often been more concerned about being POLITICALLY CORRECT (and supposedly non-offensive) in its reportings than it has been to inform us about major, significant characteristics of criminals that would help the neighborhood actually assist in catching the criminals or in making the neighborhood more safe by allowing us to have obviously important facts about what to look for (in terms of the who, what, where, when and how).
For me, it's never been about trying to claim that all criminals are of a certain race or from a certain city. It's been about allowing people in the area to have complete and meaningful information about the crimes in their neighborhood. The "race" and look of the criminal is usually an important element of the identify of the criminal.
In this case of Charles Ratazak, the INITIAL NEWS REPORTS AGAIN FAILED to give information about the "race" and identity of the criminal. Even the "picture" that was presented was extremely unhelpful for people to help identify the suspect--you couldn't see the face, you couldn't tell the race, it wasn't very close up or blown up.
I bet there were better pictures available and also photoshop techniques available for better clarity!?! Why weren't they obtained and used? This is just continual POOR REPORTING.
Sometimes the problem is POOR POLICE DECISIONS on what info to trust the public with. Sometimes it is POOR REPORTING EFFORTS in uncovering and presenting the vital facts. Sometimes it is a POLITICAL BIAS that is ingrained within the reporters/writers that causes them to characterize the news in a certain slanted way.
I have complaints about all of these problems, but I dislike that last problem the most!

Posted by PSMacintosh, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Feb 15, 2013 at 11:38 am If there is crime going on in my neighborhood, I want my neighbors and I to have as much of the facts as possible because it is OFTEN the case that WE HELP THE POLICE figure things out.
The USUAL EXCUSES given for (1) the non-disclosures of race or (2) the custom characterizations of actual political/religious/group affiliation ("regional fighters" vs "Al Qaeda terrorists") is that either the POLICE/GOV'T didn't release that info or we were just re-stating SOMEONE ELSE'S earlier words.
To the extent that the Police are not releasing the info, I fault them for not doing so.
To the extent that the Reporters are not more strongly pressing for fuller information (bc they are a part of the PC system), I fault the News Media.
To the extent that the News Media is particularly selecting their language to be PC and specifically avoiding making full disclosure of the facts, then I fault the News Media.
