For 2/7 SRVHS puts a modern spin on 'The Crucible'

San Ramon Valley High will perform an experimental take on Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," a drama about the Puritan purge of withcraft in old Salem. The show runs Feb. 21-23, Feb. 28 and March 1 and March 2 at 7 p.m.

"I set about to create a theatrical playground where the entire cast would join together communally to tell a story important to them," said Director Rob Seitelman.

In this non-traditional production, the audience is not meant to be transported to Salem in 1692, it is meant to stay firmly in Danville in 2013 and hear a story as if sitting around a campfire.

"In a traditional play, catharsis occurs, and the audience, having suspended disbelief, leaves the theater satisfied," Seitelman said. "In this play, catharsis will not occur, in the hopes that you will listen to the words of 'Crucible' with fresh ears, watch with fresh eyes, and go out into the night and change the world."

SRVHS theater department consistently puts on quality theater! I'm amazed at the talent we have here in our own back yard (and no, I don't have a child that attends there - I just really appreciate the opportunity to see quality theater in my home town).
