At Thursday night's Leadership San Ramon Valley (LSRV) Class of 2011 reception, I couldn't help but think that it was the start of some reality TV show-like competition. In all actuality, there were no reasons for me to think this way. Perhaps I'm too into "Top Chef" and "Big Brother."
With fellow newbies and alumni, we gathered at Forest Home Farms on San Ramon Valley Boulevard to become acquainted. As expected, everyone was friendly and enthusiastic not only about the program, but in their love for the area.
Fire Chief Richard Price, president of LSRV, stressed that the sole reason for being a part of the program is to better the community. I looked around the room and realized that we are all now obliged to make that happen. Every day I do my best to help inform the community with our local news coverage. While there are many things changing about journalism -- how readers get their news and more community interaction -- we also strive to keep to the basics that make reporting the news so vital. I'm excited to see how this program will help make the Danville Express and San Ramon Express more active and invested in the San Ramon Valley.
Before I sign off on leadership stuff until next month, there was also talk of homework and I feel that I need your help with this unofficial assignment. The alums were pretty clever in coming up with rhyming reasons as to why their class was best, which challenges my fellow class with one-upping them. Maybe that's where the competitive vibes stemmed from? All I can think of is "2011 is the class sent from heaven." That definitely that won't keep me from being booted off the island. I'll keep trying, though. Any suggestions?
As the editor of DanvilleExpress.com and SanRamonExpress.com, I was accepted into Leadership San Ramon Valley. The group meets once a month from September through June. Having received a scholarship to the program, I will blog about my experiences.

Dear Emily,
Rhyme time: "LSRV Class of 2011, Communities Enlivened." Enliven and Eleven are considered to rhyme in my Copy Guide. More importantly, with current voter sentiment quite anti-government and anti-establishment, it would seem critical that this year's leadership focus on enlivening community residents to have more connection with governments, government-aligned organizations and community groups.
