There Is Always An End

There is something about the word “end” that just sounds sad. “End” is just so final; it’s hard to see the “beginning” after. Seniors at school are saying their goodbyes and even though they may come back and visit from their new life, it’s sad to say goodbye. Even this week’s name, “Finals Week”, symbolizes the “end” of the school year. For most of us school is like a home away from home. Every day we go to school, we get to see our friends, see our teachers, and just learn. Sure, not all of our classes are fun or interesting every day but they all have their moments. In one of my classes, on the back wall, students wrote down all of my teacher’s sayings on a huge piece of paper. Seeing that made everyone smile as we remembered each time he would say them. It reminded us of all the good times, that class, brought into our lives. I know I will see all of my teachers again next year but it is sad to say that this year has come to an end and that I wont be in their classes next year.

When friends and family move away it’s hard to say goodbye. No one wants to end a multiple-year relationship just because someone moved away. Almost all of my middle school friends go to a different high school and it has been really hard to keep in touch with them, but our friendship is still going strong.

One of my cousins lives in Mississippi and I have never really been able to keep in touch with her, but the cell phone and Facebook were created, and we were given the opportunity to connect once more. We have taken it upon ourselves to make sure that we will always be close. Earlier this year we started talking about how I should go visit them in Mississippi and eventually we planned our trip within hours. All we had to do was convince our parents that it was a fabulous plan. I leave for Mississippi in July!

These past few weeks have been anything but easy at school. Both students and teachers have been fighting through their emotions and yet accepting and embracing them. The end of a life is never easy to accept as a reality. We lost someone close to us this year at school and I have seen some of my closest friends and family go through a lot of pain. But even though the pain of loss never really leaves us, it gives us the opportunity to heal with a “new” and so we can “begin” again. It is important to never forget what was lost, but keep it with us in our heart and mind as we look forward to our future.
