State, National, International, posted by Editor, Danville Weekly Online, on Jul 18, 2012 at 4:57 pm

Brown will visit the Transbay Transit Center construction site in the city's Financial District, where he will sign SB 1029, a bill that

"Brown's Boondoogle" will go down in history as one of the biggest flops in US history.

What it DOES do is illustrate Brown's priorities: the wishes of his union backers trump the will of mere voters and taxpayers.

Next time I need to get from Fresno to Bakersfield (and no further), I'll be sure to take the bullet train....

It get's even better. I just noticed in the article that Brown will do a ceremonial signing at LA's Union Station, and then will be "heading to" San Francisco for a second ceremonial signing.

I wonder if he's flying? Or going by motorcade up I-5? I'm also willing to bet that years from now, as the ceremonies are held for the completion of the 130-mile section from Fresno to Bakersfield, that he'll still be flying or driving. If we even get that far...

As the Central Valley absorbs most of California's growth over the next 30 years, and efficient passenger transportation between these new Central Valley commercial centers becomes critical, should we wait until the need is overdue and cost is many times higher to acquire the land and build this infrastructure?

Or is prudent planning now the better approach?
