Harvesting by horse power
In 1931, 18 horses pulled Fred Wiedemann's gas engine-powered combine on Sycamore Valley's Sherburne Hills. Dependable tractors able to operate safely on steep hillsides were not yet common, so horses continued to perform certain ranch jobs. This harvester had a self-leveling platform powered by the engine.
