Marathon chooses Lazarex Cancer Foundation as official charity

Run a mile - or 26 - to help fight cancer

Bookmark and Share
Lazarex Cancer Foundation, headquartered in Danville, has been chosen as an official charity beneficiary of the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle marathon June 27. This means that individuals and groups around the country can train and prepare for the event and raise much needed funds to help Lazarex Cancer Foundation change the face of cancer.

"We are proud to have the honor of being chosen by the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle team as an official national charity," said Dana Dornsife, president. "Along with other significant national charities, such as Team in Training, Susan G. Komen, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, we'll help participants get ready for race day and help their favorite charity at the same time."

Lazarex Cancer Foundation provides resources for cancer patients who have been told they have no other options but who refuse to give up. Since its inception, the Foundation has helped end stage patients successfully fight a variety of cancers, including sarcoma, breast and pancreatic cancers.

Dornsife founded Lazarex in 2006 after her brother-in-law Mike Miller was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2005. He was treated successfully and lived long enough for his youngest daughter to remember him. Since then, Dornsife has become a tireless patient advocate for the expansion of available resources on behalf of patients who have been told there is no hope left.

Lazarex also provides financial assistance to defray the cost associated with patient participation in FDA clinical trials. Additionally, the nonprofit organization helps patients navigate their clinical trial options and provides community education and outreach services.

The Lazarex Cancer Foundation Team for Life training and fundraising program has been developed to help participants prepare for the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, to complete either a half marathon or a full marathon. Training includes a flexible schedule and the excellent support and guidance of Team for Life seasoned marathon and fundraising coaches.

Groups or individuals wishing to participate in the Team for Life training program are requested to contact Tami Keeler at 820-4517 or tami@lazarexfoundation.org. The Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Web site is www.rnrseattle.com.
